Counseling Services at Foothill College

How Counseling Supports You

Foothill College Counseling is here to support you at every stage of your educational journey. Our counselors partner with you to clarify your goals, navigate college systems, and build a plan that reflects your strengths, values, and aspirations. Whether you're exploring careers, preparing to transfer, choosing classes, or working through personal challenges that affect your success, we’re here to help.

We believe every student deserves to be seen, heard, and supported — and we are committed to helping you overcome barriers and move confidently toward your future. What We Help With Our counseling team provides guidance and support in:

  • Academic Planning – Choosing courses and creating an education plan that keeps you on track.

  • Career Exploration – Identifying career paths that align with your interests, skills, and goals.

  • Transfer Planning – Preparing to transfer to a university with the right coursework and timeline.

  • Personal Counseling Support – Addressing personal concerns that may impact your academic success.

  • Navigating College Resources – Connecting you with programs, services, and opportunities across campus.

Foothill College offers 30-minute general counseling appointments by phone, Zoom, and in person. Once you’ve applied to Foothill, you can schedule time with a counselor for help with academic planning, transfer questions, and more. Appointments can be booked up to seven days in advance through the online scheduling system.

You can choose the format that works best for you:

Please Note: Please be prepared to be engaged in the above virtual appointments as if you were in person with a counselor. If you are driving, your appointment will be rescheduled. It is helpful to have access to a device (computer, tablet, or phone) with internet access so the counselor can show you important information on their screen. However, this is not a requirement.

Need help fast? Join the Quick Questions queue to meet with a counselor for up to 15 minutes by phone or Zoom.

To get in line, do the following.

  • Call (650) 949-7423

  • Or use the FH Counseling Chat.

  • Have your CWID ready.

Requests are handled in the order received. The queue opens no more than 5 minutes before sessions begin. We stop adding students 15 minutes before the session ends or when the queue is full. You may request a specific counselor and we will do our best to accommodate, but this is not guaranteed due to high demand.

When to schedule a 30-minute appointment. Quick Questions are best for brief guidance. If you need help with an educational plan, academic probation, or transcript evaluation, please schedule a 30-minute counseling appointment instead.

Please note: all quick question dates and times are subject to change.
