Enrollment Steps for Priority Registration
Priority registration is set up for first-time college students with a goal of obtaining their first degree or certificate. See the Academic Calendar for priority enrollment registration dates for the current quarter. If you have applied for admission, go to MyPortal to check your registration date.
Follow Steps 1-6 to Receive Priority Registration
- You'll need to complete steps 1-3 when filling out the Foothill College online application.
- You can complete steps 4-6 by following options listed for each
Please Note: You will NOT be able to receive priority higher than Group 6 if you've previously attended college or university and/or received a degree.
- Apply for admission.
- Do this as early as possible, even if you think you may attend another school.
- Keep all your options open, and keep your priority registration if you choose Foothill.
- Check out our programs and courses options to decide which major you want to declare on your admission application.
- Note: You can easily update your major in MyPortal after you've applied for admission.
- To receive priority registration, you need to include an educational goal of transfer, degree or certificate when you apply for admission.
You have three options to meet this requirement.

- Complete Online Orientation.
- Take Counseling 5 (1-unit course).
- Attend a summer Kickstart Enrollment Workshop.
In order to fulfill this requirement, your student education plan (SEP) must include the term in which you plan to register.
Priority Enrollment Order
In accordance with state and local regulations, students will be assigned registration dates in the following order.

- Priority registration is set up for first-time college students with a goal of obtaining their first degree or certificate.
- You will NOT be able to receive priority higher than Group 6 if you've previously attended college or university and/or received a degree.
If you belong to this group, you must complete the following to receive Priority Registration.
- Select an educational goal of transfer, degree, or certificate.
- Declare a major.
- Complete an assessment, orientation, and an educational plan
Please Note: A Student Parent is a student who has children under the age of 18 who receive more than half of their support from that student.
If you a student athlete, you must complete the following to receive Priority Registration.
- Select an educational goal of transfer, degree, or certificate.
- Declare a major.
- Complete assessment, orientation, and an educational plan.
If you a continuing student, you must complete the following to receive Priority Registration.
- Select an educational goal of transfer, degree, or certificate.
- Declare a major.
- Complete assessment, orientation, and an educational plan.
New, Fully-Matriculated College Students must complete the following to access Prority Registration.
- Select an educational goal of transfer, degree, or certificate.
- Declare a major.
- Complete assessment, orientation, and an educational plan.
- Selected an educational goal of transfer, degree or certificate;
- and declared an academic major.
- BUT have not completed assessment, orientation or an educational plan
If you are a transfer student or you're returning to Foothill, complete the following for Priority Registration.
- Complet one term at Foothill College.
- Select an educational goal of transfer, degree or certificate.
- Declare an academic major.
- Have already transfered or completed 100 units within or outside of Foothill College.
Who have NOT:
- Declared a major
- Selected an educational goal of transfer, degree, or certificate.
- Have already transfered or completed 100 units within or outside of Foothill College.
- Has fallen into academic and/or progress probation standing. (May be restored after two consecutive terms in good standing, if applicable).
- Freshman, sophomores, juniors, or seniors or meet other criteria to attend Foothill College.
