Your Safety on Campus
Foothill College is committed to providing a safe and prepared environment for every student, employee, and visitor. Knowing how to respond, who to call, and what to do in an emergency will help protect you and those around you.
Call for Help (Immediate Threats)
- From a cell phone — call Foothill Police Dispatch directly: (408) 924-8000.
- Calling 9-1-1 from a cell phone may route you to the California Highway Patrol Dispatch Center in Vallejo.
- From any campus landline (office phone, classroom phone, pay phone): Dial 9-1-1.
The Foothill College Police Department is located on the ground floor of the Campus Center in Room 2103. It is staffed with sworn police officers trained in emergency response and public safety.
Active Shooter — Run, Hide, Defend

Earthquake — Drop, Cover, Hold On
Drop to the floor and take cover under a sturdy desk or table if possible.
If no shelter is nearby, drop, make yourself small, and protect your head and neck
with your arms.
Remain where you are until the shaking stops. Exit calmly and move away from structures,
trees, and power lines.
Fire Alarm and Building Evacuation

Power Outage
- Stay calm.
- During daytime outages, instructors will receive direction from college officials.
- During evening outages, police and administrators will determine if classes will continue.
- Carry a working flashlight in your backpack, purse, or vehicle.
Emergency Notification System (ENS)Foothill-De Anza uses an Emergency Notification System to inform students and employees of critical incidents such as power outages, closures, or safety threats. Alerts may be sent by text message, email, or recorded voice message.

Report Strange or Unusual Behavior
If you observe disturbing, threatening, or unusual behavior on campus:
- Dial 9-1-1 from a campus phone or call (408) 924-8000 from your cell phone.
