What is the Cymatics Lab?

At the Cymatics Lab, explore how music, sound, math, and physics come together to produce visible patterns of vibration, a fascinating blend of science and art.

Whether you're curious about the visual effects of sound waves, interested in physics or art, or just want to experiment, the Cymatics Lab is for you.

The Cymatics Lab, along with six other Technology Labs, plus the ProtoLab (Prototype Lab), make up the Emerging Technologies Institute (ETI).

The Cymatics Lab is Used as a Space to:

• Explore Cymatics technologies and study how sound and vibration shape visible patterns.
• Test and experiment with Cymatics hardware and software in a hands-on and immersive lab environment.
• Share information and findings across campus, bringing together STEM students, faculty, and staff.
• Provide training and guidance for all Foothill College faculty, staff, and students interested in the field of Cymatics.
• Support Cymatics-related curriculum, class projects, and interdisciplinary experiments.
• Host Cymatics exhibits and demos at both the Los Altos Hills and Sunnyvale Foothill College campuses.
• Present Cymatics exhibits and demonstrations at Foothill College events such as Day On The Hill and STEMentors Possible Self.
